These are adverbs which use is to emphasize the meaning of the adjective to which they refer

these are used in front of comparative adjectives

-          a bit = un po’

-          a good deal = un bel po’

-          a great deal = un bel po’

-          a little = un poco

-          a lot = molto

-          much = molto

-          rather = piuttosto

-          slightly = leggermente

these are used in front of superlative adjectives

-          by far = di gran lunga

-          easily = facilmente

-          much = molto

-          quite = abbastanza
